28mm High Fantasy - Legions of the Dead

Brains...want fresh Brains!

Well that's enough about my own burnout for today at least ( joke!) but this week at Alternative Armies its all about the Undead with codes released into the High Fantasy range which is excellent for players of DarkeStorme and all other 28mm scale fantasy systems.

Legions of the Dead

VNT10 Zombies.
A great pack of useful poses to build up a horde of the living dead.

Above is code VNT11 Zombies II.
A second pack of the shambling dead which adds even more poses to your legions.

The Eternal Guard code VNT12.

An Undead Mage, Skeletal Champion and Zombie standard and musician

VNT13 Skeletal Warriors.

The core of any warband or battle unit of skeletons.

VNT14 Skeleton Archers.

Put some extra holes in the enemy with these bone bowcasters!

VNT15 Skeleton Polearms.

Spears, Axes and attitude; these lads have them all!

VNT16 Skeleton Command.

Perfect for leading any group of the above miniatures into battle.

All of these packs are £8.00 (for five) or £6.00 (for four) or just £1.75 each because of course with this range you can choose to buy the whole pack or any amount of any of the poses from it; total flexibility (unlike the Undead!) for you to choose from. All the miniatures are supplied with a plastic round base included.

Thanks for reading!

The Dead Walk - Latest Painted Miniatures!

Hello Barkers,

Just out now on the Alternative Armies website are the latest additions to the Pro-Painted ranges in 28mm scale High Fantasy miniatures. For use with DarkeStorme or with any other fantasy wargame or roleplay system these miniatures are excellent value and really useful.

This time is the turn of the Zombies...arrgh, moan, shuffle...bite!

Above you can see two sets of Zombies in classic poses, shuffling, moaning and ready for endless war. Also the bottom image shows an Eternal Guard command set which has an Undead Mage, a Skeletal Champion and Zombie command figures. Very useful sets these.

Each of these packs can be bought as a complete set or you can select any miniature from them and order it as a single or in any amount you wish. At only £4.00 each or five for £18.00 they are super (the price includes not only the metal casting at £1.75 but also the plastic base and the paint job and the sculpted basing effect too!) and I am considering a warband for DarkeStorme this month as I have little time for painting at present.

Thanks for reading!

Lesser Goblins now in 28mm High Fantasy range

Hello Barkers,

Its been a wait of two weeks for some of us but the brilliant KC1 Lesser Goblins pack is now on the Alternative Armies website and is out to buy! Click on the image above to make it larger.

The pack contains eleven little goblinoids armed with a mix of sword, sword and shield or spear and what is great is that there is a whole host of different poses meaning almost all of them are different! Each stands approx 12mm in height making them knee height on the fearsome Mountain Orcs in pack code KC2.

These miniatures have been off the market for many years and are fondly remembered by a lot of wargamers who have been customers of Alternative Armies since the 1990's.

Your Orcish army needs a horde of these little blighters as fodder for Elven or Human troops and at only £6.00 a pack they are super value.

You can see them HERE.

Thanks,

Gavin.

Painted Releases from Alternative Armies

Hello Barkers,

Its friday once more and this time we have a couple of postings but first up is the second lot of pro-painted fantasy releases in 28mm scale from Alternative Armies. Its a real treat this time as we can see some of the last lot of 28mm fantasy releases now as finished miniatures for use right onto the table out of the box they come in!

As always you can learn more on the Alternative Armies website by clicking HERE and then browsing the sub-sections by racial type.

Below are images, click on them to make them larger along with the codes and titles. At an average of only £4.00 per miniature (that includes not only the casting itself but also the painting, the base and the sculpted basing effect as well) these are superb value and adorn my own gaming table at home (three small children prevent much painting!).

As before you can buy the whole pack or select singles in any quantity from it. This is very useful as it allows you (or me in this case) to get one pack of 95519 Mountain Orcs and then to add eight more mixed of the Sword and Spear armed warriors in that code to make up a full warband for DarkeStorme.

95522 Orc Artillery (3)

95519 Mountain Orcs (6)

KC2 Mountain Orcs (3)

KC1 Lesser Goblins (11)

Thanks for looking.

Painted High Fantasy range at Alternative Armies

Hello Barkers!

Its a big week for High Fantasy in 28mm scale. In fact they have now fought their way out from under the pile of Barking Irons magazines and Baron Petrochemicoli limited editions to get my attention!

Some of you will be aware that Alternative Armies produces a great deal of top notch painted miniatures every year, all hand painted here in Scotland, covering everything from Flintloque / Slaughterloo miniatures to HOF and HOT 15mm miniatures. These painted miniatures also include High Fantasy in 28mm. Starting this week the company has introduced a brand new system and web page for these painted and based miniatures.

Have a look here for full details of the range, the service and what is on offer.

At only £4.00 a miniature (less if you take the full pack code) you can purchase a full set or multiples or any singles from it. Maximum flexibility. This is a great way to get playing DarkeStorme (see here) or any other system for High Fantasy both wargaming and roleplaying.

The releases have begun with some really spiffing and useful Undead and a couple of Trolls. Here are some pictures to whet your whistle for more! See the site link above for full details of each code.

Mountain Orcs and Orc Artillery at Alternative Armies

Hello Everyone,

Those of you who are eagle eyed might have noticed I am a day late in posting up this news about new miniatures from Alternative Armies in the High Fantasy 28mm range. Well, I have been a bit under the weather and still am to an extent, but hopefully I will be back to normal next week. That aside here is the news!

Alternative Armies have re-released some of the most popular high fantasy codes from their extensive range this week including two packs of hulking Mountain Orcs and my fav the Orc Artillery pack. See images of them below;

95519 Mountain Orcs
Six Large Orcs

This pack contains six different Mountain Orcs to form a warband command along with warriors to command within it. Led by a truly massive warlord this pack also has a wizard, standard bearer, musician, spearman and swordsman too. Each Orc stands 30mm tall. Choosing poses 5 and 6 in multiples allows the creation of larger units of Mountain Orcs when combined with code KC02.

From the left the poses are

Pose 1: 95519-01 Warboss, sperate arm, stands 50mm tall!
Pose 2: 95519-02 Wizard
Pose 3: 95519-03 Standard Bearer with Stone Club
Pose 4: 95519-04 Drummer, spiked helm
Pose 5: 95519-05 Sword, wooden shield, armour
Pose 6: 95519-06 Spear, armour

KC2 Mountain Orcs
Three Large Orcs

This pack contains three different Mountain Orcs in a variety of poses which form a good centre from which to expand your rampaging forces. Each Orc stands 30mm tall.

From the left the poses are

Pose 1: KC02-01 Spiked Club and Shield
Pose 2: KC02-02 Two Handed Spiked Mace
Pose 3: KC03-03 Greatsword and Shield

95522 Orc Artillery
Artillery Piece with Crew

This pack contains two Orc Gunners and a kit for constructing a Bolt Thrower.

From the left the poses are

Pose 1: 95522-01 Officer with Club
Pose 2: 95522-02 Gunner, Bolt
Pose 3: Artillery Piece Kit (Bow and Base)

All the miniatures are supplied with round lipped plastic bases included in the price and as with the rest of the range you can choose to buy the whole pack or single miniatures in any quantity from the pack. So if you want nine Mountain Orcs with Sword and Shield you can have it!

Go here: High Fantasy. Then navigate to Orcish Horde and Mountain Orcs to see the packs.

More releases in this range to come later this month.

Regards,

Gavin.

High Fantasy Releases - Dogmen and Winter Knights

Hello Everyone,

Another week and some more news from Alternative Armies about the 28mm High Fantasy range. More releases, this time due to customer demands, a break in the Orcs and Goblins to bring you Dogmen and also the first Human code.

Here is what I am talking about.

FL10 Winter Knights
This pack contains two plate armoured knights, both dressed for winter and armed with a long shafted axe. One of them is on foot and the other mounted on an armoured horse. A very useful and character filled set which will feature in a DarkeStorme scenario in Barking Irons No 2.

OH6 Dogmen Soldiers I
Four canine warriors with a variety of weapons. These savage fellows make excellent mercenaries and freebooters too.

OH16 Dogmen Soldiers II
Four more canine warriors to build up your forces with. Vicious and quiet capable of rending your enemies limb from limb these chaps will do you proud!

Additionally requests from gamers have begun to mount up for some more DarkeStorme material such as a free scenario. If you have any thoughts on what and where then please do comment here or message me directly.

That's All for Now.

Alternative Armies to re-release entire High Fantasy Range - 10% offer this week

Hello Everyone,

Some news for you all. Alternative Armies possesses one of the finest range of high fantasy 25-28mm scale miniatures around. Built up in the mid nineteen nineties there are more than two hundred miniatures in the range from Dwarves and Elves to Undead and monsters along with some very unique codes. With the release of DarkeStorme the Skirmish the company has taken the chance to bring the ENTIRE range back into the public sphere once more. Many of the miniatures have not been seen for more than a decade.
This process will of course take some time to carry out in full but its now well underway. The original code structure is being used and first to come into the light are the DH codes, the Dwarven Host.
See here for the High Fantasy section of the Alternative Armies website: HF
With advances in web technology Alternative Armies can bring these miniatures to you in an extremely flexible way. You can view the packs, you can see hi-rez images too. You can choose to purchase an entire pack, or choose any of the miniatures from the pack as singles in any quantity. All the miniatures are at great prices with five Dwarves (including round plastic bases) coming in at £8.00 or £1.75 each if you choose singles from the pack.
By going to the website you can read all about this flexibility and see it in action by playing around with the buttons.
As a special offer I am able to tell you that there is a 10% off code now in effect on these newly put up codes. To make use of it go to the website and put High Fantasy miniature codes and or a copy of DarkeStorme in your basket. Then proceed to the cart screen and choose your postal region. Then on to the Checkout Screen (white background), here put in to the 'Discount / Voucher' box this exact numeric code ' 1991 ', the total for your order will automatically reduce by 10% on screen. The offer is in effect until next Monday morning.
Go on, get yourselves some Dwarves...or even a Bombard!
Gavin.

Inside the Alternative 5 - sent to Orcs in the Webbe

Hello Everyone,

The text for 'Inside the Alternative No 5' the regular intervew between myself and Craig Andrews at Orcs in the Webbe has now been sent it. The column will appear soon on the OITW site.

As my previous posting said the subject of ITA5 is DarkeStorme the high fantasy skirmish game set in the World of Valon which is about be to released for pre-order in a new improved format.

Its a long column this time packed with information on the game, the mechanics of the game, the background and more. Plus some additional questions about the Dracci, the possibility of a cross over Darke Age into Flintloque title and the relationship DarkeStorme has to Dresda the very first Darke Age skirmish game from Alternative Armies.

Its a good read and you will enjoy it so look out for the update.

Go HERE for Orcs in the Webbe.

Thanks,

Gavin.

Green Knight - A DarkeStorme scenario for Barking Irons magazine

Hello Barking Irons fans,

This evening I have been working on a scenario for inclusion in a future issue of the Barking Irons magazine for the DarkeStorme high fantasy gaming system.

Its a scenario that features the infamous Green Knight (he of the Arthurian legend) and an unforunate travelling band of Elvish mercenaries who come across him in the woods at night. After refusing his challenge to single combat they attack him and well...he is somewhat hard to kill.

The full scenario is the first one made up using the new version of the game and its working well. For a player more used to Flintloque and its D10 mechanics, the D6 mechanic is a change but for me a welcome one (having been working on something for Mr Hobbs which will also see the mag in BI No 3). When it makes print the scenario will have rules for night fighting and also how to deal with an unkillable enemy.

The pictured Green Knight on his horse is from my own collection and is featured in the forth coming book.

For those who are interested the Green Knight mounted and on foot can be found here on the Alternative Armies site. Great value and very useful.

More on DarkeStorme in Issue 2 of the magazine and also in the upcoming 'Inside the Alternative' column on Orcs in the Webbe.

Regards,

Gavin.

Preparing the 'Inside the Alternative' Column No 5

Hello Everyone,

Its that time of the month again for me. The whips crack and the gears of war strain and heave...and that is just me getting into my chair! That task master Craig Andrews over at http://www.orcsinthewebbe.co.uk/ has twisted my hairy arm into another column for his most excellent site.

While I cannot give too much away I can give an idea of what the column will be on this time. To put it in short its on 'DarkeStorme the Skirmish'. Alternative Armies very own and most awesome high fantasy gaming system for both 28mm scale and 15mm scale miniatures.

Our green friend above was rendered by the Boy of Bronze, one Andy Gorman, a name you will all become more familiar with in the coming months. An angry sod and no doubt (not the Boy of Bronze of course...the Orc!).

He forms part of the new cover art for the next imprint of the game book which will be talked about in Inside the Alternative. Craig has asked me to give you all the low down on the game, its relationship to Flintloque and Valon and also what it holds for everyone's favourite destroyers the Dracci. Plus what changes the new imprint will bring to the game and when it will be coming out.

Look for the column later this month.....

Gavin.
